Dollhouse Part 1 {Monday's Cup of Creativity}

Do you remember your favorite childhood treasure? One of mine was a dollhouse my grandfather built for me from scratch. I am not talented enough to build one from scratch, but I am currently working on a dollhouse for my niece's birthday in May.

Thanks to Kelli from Pretty Lil' Posies, who posted a dollhouse her mom made, I discovered that Michael's sells unfinished dollhouses! So I took my 50 percent coupon and got one at half price! I wanted more rooms, so I also (later) bought a little drawer shelf and took out the drawers. It's a little shorter than the house, so I am going to make the top a rooftop patio.

I am probably having more fun with this than my niece ever will...

Here are pictures of the exterior, which is what I have done so far:

 I painted the house green, my niece's favorite color-the photo makes it look like there are smudges, but those don't show up in real life. My husband and I were just blessed with a new digital SLR, so after today the pictures will be better!

This will be the rooftop patio, so I made a cute little trellis. I found this trellis-looking sheet of wood at Michael's for less money than it would take to make one with Popsicle sticks (which is what I was going to do). I painted it white and added the fake ivy.

More to come at a later date!

  2. You are doing an amazing job. I built a dollhouse for my daughter from one of those kits. It took me a solid week to do everything. I know how much work goes into that kind of project. I am your latest follower. I would love for you to come and check out my blog and follow me back. I am also having a blog party and the link opens up tonight at 8pm EST. It would be great if you stopped by and joined in the fun.
