Working for a college ministry, I attend a lot of costume parties (which, by the way, I LOVE!) Recently I went to a pirate vs. ninja party and, of course dressed like a pirate. They're way cool and I've already worn an epic ninja costume that cannot be repeated (sorry, I have no electronic picture).
I love the challenge of putting together a costume cheaply and I did this one for $5!!!
I used clothes I already had that looked somewhat piratey-bermuda shorts and a black cami over a white blouse with puffy sleeves.
I bought all the accessories at the dollar store: two red scarves, toy sword, handkerchief, and monkey.
I tied the scarves together for a sash/sword holder.
I bought a piratey looking handkerchief with skulls on it and tied it in a piratey fashion.
Clearly, the monkey is the best part of my costume. I made him a head wrap by cutting a piece off my own handkerchief (the part that tied under, so you couldn't see where I cut). Then I made him an eye patch with construction paper and yarn. Then, of course, gave him a hook made of foil.
