Since I am currently in Clearwater, have been so for almost six weeks, and am preparing to leave, I thought it would be appropriate to give you the top 10 reasons to visit Clearwater Beach, FL.
If you or someone in your family likes to golf, this is a good place to go because there are TONS of golf courses here. There's also putt-putt if you're not a golfer, like me. Oh and there's disc golf too and many disc golf courses.
9. It's two hours from Orlando
That may seem like a long drive BUT, if you want to be at the beach, but the kiddies want a trip to Disney World or Universal Studios, or Islands of Adventure, just know-it's only two hours away.
8. You can stay inexpensively right on the beach.
You can also stay expensively, BUT there are a plethora of small hotels with good accommodations (though small) that only cost $50-$70 a night.
7. They have pirates.
No, not real ones, BUT there is a fun pirate tour.
There are several lakes near-by which have manatees living in them. And you can swim with them!
5. Amazing Library
This is valuable if you're here for longer than a week! They have an amazing library system and they will let you get a temporary card if you're staying for a while.
4. There's TONS to do
Obviously, there is the beach. But, there is a lot more to do around Clearwater. You can check out a baseball game from the Clearwater Threshers or the Tampa Bay Rays. You can visit Bush Gardens (less than an hour from Clearwater). You can visit St. Petersburg without paying the St. Pete price. You can rent a boat, go para sailing, spot Hulk Hogan around town.
3. Family Friendly
I definitely think Clearwater Beach is a family-friendly beach. Almost every night, they have vendors and activities at the pier. There is an extremely fun-looking playground (the kids with us tell me it is SO FUN) near the pier too and the activities are family friendly. I definitely feel safe here and it's very clean. The strip has your typical surf shops-all of them boasting Silly Bandz and there are about 4 ice cream places on a one mile strip.
There are dolphins in the Gulf! At dusk, you can see them come close to the shore, as they are feeding. It's fun to watch them dip in and out of the water. There are also a couple of dolphin excursions in Clearwater where you can pay to play or swim with dolphins.
1. It's Beautiful
Clearwater really is a beautiful beach with white sands and decently clean ocean water. And there is no oil on the shore...yet. Let's hope it stays that way. The sunsets themselves are worth coming over to see!
