Delightfully Nesting: To Stock or Not Stock the Pantry?

For the first time in my adult life, my pantry at home is somewhat stocked. When I married the man of my dreams in December and we moved into our new apartment, he brought over boxes of food and non-perishables.

I've never had a stocked pantry away from my parents. I usually buy what I need and wait until it is pretty much all used up before I buy more food. This is due to wanting to save money and because I travel so much.

But, it's sometimes a pain in the butt to not have a stocked pantry. For example, when I am cooking and realize I don't have a certain usually stocked ingredient. Or, when I don't feel like cooking but I have nothing quick and easy to make in the pantry.

On the other hand, it bothers me that there's a box of hamburger helper in my pantry that I never plan on using.
I am getting better at stocki8ng my pantry, but I know I will never be one of those families that has months worth of food stocked away.

What do ya'll think? Do you enjoy stocking the pantry or does it bother you to have random food lying around?

Delightfully Nesting,

  1. I am in huge favor of stocking up on things that you will use when they are on sale. I see no point on stocking things we won't use but I am a big fan of stocking up on things when they are on sale, especially when I have coupons. I am blogging about it tomorrow actually! The past month I have been tracking all I spend and how much I am saving with coupons and sales :)

  4. I'm with Larissa - I like buying things I will use when they are on sale and having them on-hand. However, right now I am tackling the process of using up everything that is stocked (being creative) in the pantry so I can make a fresh start and have more of an idea of what I actually use the most. Maybe I'll even create some new recipes.

And every once in a while, Hamburger Helper can be a good meal with some veggies on the side.

  5. I stock! I keep the items that I use frequently always on hand...I actually find it more cost effective. You will figure out what is best for your family either way. = )
